"Bronze Sculpture, “shepherd And Sylvain” By Léopold Steiner (1853-1899)"
Very beautiful and large bronze print by Léopold Steiner (1853-1899), with a nuanced brown patina, representing a bearded shepherd who carries at arm's length a Sylvain, a small protective divinity of the woods and fields. This neoclassical-inspired sculpture draws its origins from Roman mythology. Signature on the L.Steiner terrace and foundry stamp Thiébaut Frères in Paris
History : 1884: Steiner obtains a travel grant thanks to the plaster model by Berger et sylvain
1885: January 15, the State orders its creation in bronze from Eugène Gonon for 5,500 F.
1893: March 29, order of attribution to the Luxembourg Museum, placed on the terrace (inventoried LUX 117 and RF 4081).
1931: sent to the marble depot. 1931: June deposited in Briançon
1986: assigned to the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.
2016: final return of deposit, reserves of the Musée d'Orsay
