Object description :

"Pulwar Sword"
A nice but modest Afghan pulwar 'pulouar' sword from the 19th century. A likely witness of one of the first Anglo-Afghan wars. The typical pulwar hilt with the dome-shape pommel and downward bending quillons. The craftsmanship is good but without any elaborate details. This piece was simply made for doing the job. The single edge blade is unmarked and has a pronounced and boarded fuller. The heavy blade is 5 mm thick ending in a 20 cm yelman. The pommel contains a piece of resin that makes a rattling noice when weelding the sword. The item was covered in dirt and surface rust from years of neglect and has been cleaned. The tip of the blade is slighty dented. No scabbard. Belgian provenance.
