Cuirassier officer's breastplate. Model adopted on March 31, 1855. All brass parts are gilded. Wrought iron breastplate. The front and backplate are adorned with six rivets. Each of the two straps has a black cowhide body, garnished with two brass chains; the body is finished with a rectangular buttonhole plate molded from foliage leaves with a sanded background with a heart-shaped leather tip (one part missing) the strap holder is made of brass with three rivets, the chain holder plates are covered by a lion's muzzle. Black leather belt with gold-tone brass roller buckle. Breastplate signed “Mre d’Armes de Châtt” “1890” on the back “2nd size 2nd width. France Third Republic. Tiny traces of oxidation.
