Maximilien Van der Linden, also known as Max, was a Belgian ceramic artist born on June 1, 1922, at the Nodebais Castle in Brabant Wallon, and he passed away on November 25, 1999. He graduated from the Institute of Decorative Arts at La Cambre. His artistic work was deeply inspired by the message of Christ and guided by a broad sense of the sacred, deeply rooted in everyday life and rural settings. His work often explored themes such as music, solitude, death, and the anxiety caused by the chaotic and threatening changes in the contemporary world. He subtly hinted at alternative perspectives through gestures of solidarity, unconventional encounters, or humorous details. For him, everyone, in their own way, was sacred and essential to the future of humanity.
Maximilien was a friend of King Baudouin and was responsible for the creation of the Saint Martin's Festivals, which are held annually in November in Tourinnes-la-Grosse. Julos Beaucarne described him as the man who turned mud into stars.
