Dimensions with frame: 80 x 67 cm.Anton Hickel is an Austrian painter born in Bohemia. After his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he worked as a painter under the direction of his brother, Joseph Hickel, painter at the Court of Vienna.
From 1779, he traveled Europe, painting in Germany in Munich, Mainz and Manheim. In 1785 he stayed in Switzerland, then became the official court painter of Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor.
He moved to France in 1786 where he painted portraits of Queen Marie-Antoinette as well as Princess de Lamballe. In 1789, during the Revolution, he emigrated to England where he became a very fashionable portrait painter. He then created his famous painting representing The House of Commons.
