"Pierre Coffinhal-laprade, Dit Laprade (1875-1931), Suite Of Eight Ink Drawings On Paper."
LAPRADE (Pierre COFFINHAL-LAPRADE, known as), painter and engraver born in Narbonne (Aude) on July 25, 1875, died in Fontenay-aux-Roses on December 23, 1931 (Ec. Fr.). After beginning artistic studies in Bourdelle's studio in Montauban, Pierre Laprade moved to Paris in 1892 to follow courses at the École des Beaux-Arts. He attended classes very rarely, preferring to copy the masters exhibited at the Louvre. It was in 1901 that he exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Indépendants when Impressionism was bowing out. It was Ambroise Vollard who made him known to the general public by purchasing his entire workshop. Exhibitions in France and abroad, particularly in Italy, were numerous and his success was resounding, notably in 1926 during his visit to the galleries of Bernheim-Jeune and Katia Granoff. He exhibited very regularly at the Salons d'Automne and the Tuileries. Several French museums preserve his works, including the Museum of Modern Art in the city of Paris. This very pretty and touching suite of eight ink drawings on paper representing his son was produced in 1911 and 1912. Presence of the workshop stamp on the drawing located at the bottom right and on the back of the frame.
