Very beautiful engravings taken from the rare collection of records of Sir Hamilton's ancient vases produced by Hugues d'Hancarville (1719-1805): Collection of Etruscan, Greek and Roman antiquities, taken from the cabinet of Mr. Hamilton, British envoy extraordinary at court of Naples, Naples (François Morelli), 1766-1767.
Our engraving represents a mythological scene from a Greek battle, the central shield bears a motif of phallus with winged purse, certainly as an amulet.
