"Important Sculpture “the Meeting” By A. Moreau – Late 19th Century"
Proof in regula with brown patina entitled “the meeting”, signed by the brothers Louis Auguste and François Hippolyte Moreau. Large in its size and charisma, this work in excellent condition depicts a couple of young farmers sharing a moment of complicity. Their posture is realistic and aerial. Moving, the young man with curly hair, dressed in an open shirt, looks at the young lady, placing his hand on her shoulder. The woman with graceful curves turns towards her suitor with a hint of a smile. She is holding a rake held by a bale of hay. Light and harmonious, this refined work is a perfect example of the expertise of the Moreau Brothers. Louis Auguste Moreau born in 1855 in Paris and died in 1919 in Montgeron, is a renowned French sculptor. He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1875 where his works regularly won awards. He obtained a 3rd class medal of honor in 1880, a bronze medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889 and another bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. His academic or Art Nouveau works were often signed with his brother François “L & F Moreau”. ******** Period: Late 19th century. Excellent condition.
