"Europe On The Back Of Zeus"
Ceramic group representing Europe on a Bull. (Cracked ear) Legend has it that Europa, Phoenician princess, daughter of Agenor(1) king of Tyre, walking one day by the sea with her companions, was noticed by Zeus. Inflamed by her beauty, he transformed himself into a bull with horns resembling a crescent moon and came to lie down at the young girl's feet. At first frightened, she became bolder, caressed the animal and sat on its back. Immediately the bull got up and rushed towards the sea. Despite the cries of Europa, who clung to his horns, the bull entered the waves and moved away from the shore. Both thus reached Crete where Zeus united with the young girl. From these loves three sons will be born: Minos, Sarpedon and Rhadamante.
