"Photograph Of Jean Marais By Thérèse Le Prat"
Original photo by Thérèse Le Prat, signed in white gouache, taken in 1955, representing Jean Marais, in the title role of Georges Bernard Shaw's play, Pygmalion. Created in 1912, this piece was reassembled by Jean Marais himself, with Jeanne Moreau as his main partner. Thérèse Le Prat, née Cahen, is a photographer who, after working for the Maritime couriers for their advertising campaigns, turned to portraiture, particularly of artists, and to the search for the depth of human expression. Using sophisticated and violent lighting to bring out every flaw in the face, she composes portraits where we feel the anguish of the human condition. Here, with Jean Marais, his gaze is calm, but still remains questioning... The photo is framed in a very pretty mahogany frame which perfectly highlights the composition. It's an interesting photo of Jean, which, for once, does not emphasize his extreme beauty, but rather his humanity, and reveals the mature man he is becoming.
