"The Marathon Soldier, Bronze After Cortot"
Bronze sculpture with green patina representing the soldier of Marathon announcing victory, after Jean-Pierre Cortot (1787-1843). Barbedienne cast iron from the end of the 19th century. Dimensions: Height 39 cm; width 42 cm; depth 18 cm Good general condition, the plaque under the bronze (see photo) shows that there was undoubtedly a marble counter-base. The marble original which is in the Louvre Museum was commissioned by the State in 1834 for the Tuileries garden and intended to be a counterpart to James Pradier's Prometheus.
