Louis Samain (Belgium, 1834 - 1901) Water carrier carrying her child, 140 cm Louis Samain (July 4, 1834 – October 24, 1901) was a Belgian sculptor. Samain was born in Nivelles and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels with Louis Simonis. After winning the Belgian Prix de Rome, he lived in Italy for a while. In 1889, he received a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition and in 1895, his work was exhibited at the Société des Artistes Français in Paris. He died in Ixelles.
