Object description :

"Raoul Serres : “street With The Donkey”"
Raoul Serres (1881-1971): “Rue à l'âne”, drawing in pencil, gouache and watercolor on bistre paper 22 Here, two Basque people are chatting on a street corner, perhaps in Ciboure, while a woman loads the baskets of a donkey to go to the market. An artist little known to the general public, the art of prints which earned him the Grand Prix de Rome in 1906 was confidential and overshadowed the rest of his painted and drawn work. Although originally from Haute-Garonne, he left us a number of virtuoso illustrations, in oil, watercolor or pen on the Basque Country (he was friends with Labrouche and Arrue), of great sensitivity and delicacy. See also our drawing “The Heir” Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone. In partnership with Galerie Lafouresse, we are specialists in paintings on the Basque Country, the Landes and the Arcachon Basin. Other photos and many other objects in our stores in Pau and Biarritz and on our site: galerielhoste.com.
