"Fireback Dated 1688 With The Arms Of Demoiselle Anne-catherine Husson (98x86 Cm)"
Fireback dated 1688 from the 17th century with the arms of Demoiselle Anne-Catherine Husson (1632-1708), from a very old family of ironmasters in Sainte-Claire, near Villerupt. First married wife of Martin Béguinet (1619-1685), rich merchant, mayor of Longwy, ironmaster in Villerupt and founder of the Carmes convent (1662), she became mistress of the Villerupt ironworks in 1685, upon his death. She remarried in 1693 to Charles d'Haraucourt who died a year later leaving her with numerous fiefdoms such as Chambley, Audun-la-Tiche and Antilly among others. She lived in the Château d'Antilly until her death on March 28, 1708. The Villerupt forges, renowned for their beautifully crafted decorative models, are attested as early as 1573 but their creations are, undoubtedly, much earlier, for example, the model with the phoenix, one of the emblems of Francis I along with the salamander. Coat of arms: Cut from... two arrows placed in saltire and... with a mount of four cutlets. His weight is 181 kg. Note a crack and a small loss in the lower part.
