"Old Tabriz, 127 X 185 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool In Persia, Iran, Late 18th Century, Kadjar Dynasty"
A real eye-catcher is this piece from Tabriz in Persia, Iran.
## The medallion in the shape of a double Hamsa is one of the rarest in the art of Persian carpets.
Known as Jamsa or Hamsa, it is a symbol of protection used by Jews and Muslims. ## The name Hand of Fatima refers to Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, a virtuous young woman born in Mecca in the year 604, and married to Ali, the Prophet's first cousin. Fatima prayed with such fervor that she was able to make it rain in the desert, leaving behind beautiful flowers that emerged from the sand.
# Therefore, the Hand of Fatima is given protective powers.
Hamsa in Arabic means five, the five fingers of the hand and the five pillars of Islam.
## Hand-knotted during the Kadjar dynasty, artifact knotted between the end of the 18th century and the first part of the 19th century.
Tabriz with floral medallion, designed like a large flower with eight petals, measuring 127 cm wide by 185 cm long. Originally from Persia, Iran, this beautiful old collectible rug presents a delicate decor to be placed more on the wall than on the floor.
Dark red medallion with pendants at the end of cartridges followed by halberds. The whole is placed on a dark blue field like a large horizontal cartouche in the shape of a double hamsa, as mentioned above, accompanied by four flowered spandrels of a beautiful blue-green.
The border has a very delicate design. ## In very good condition for its age, despite slight wear, in good quality wool, and soft colors that combine wonderfully well. The velvet is in good condition, normal wear shows slight damage often typical of a carpet of this age. It presents a decoration of arabesques and well-designed flowers for the field. This beautiful Persian rug takes up the criteria of ancient Persian decorations, knotted with great finesse.
The quality of these Persian pieces is clear, the work is fine, precise and durable. The materials used are of first quality:
This rug is clean (impeccable), the wool is knotted beautifully and finely tight as these rugs always are. It reveals to us shades full of contrasts, many colors, blue, pink, red, green, apricot, black and ivory. # The nuances underline this learned floral design in the great tradition of Persian art. Drawing that we also find in Mughal art, inspired by the miniatures of the school of Tabriz, then capital of the Persian empire.
# Carpet knotted under the Kadjar dynasty or Kadjars (Qājār, Qadjar, Qajar, Persian: قاجار) Turkmen dynasty which reigned over Iran from 1786 to 1925.
