"Travel Writing Case In Walnut And Mother-of-pearl, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century"
Travel writing desk in walnut veneer consisting of a top with mother-of-pearl inlays at the corners, a central plate and a net around its edge punctuated with mother-of-pearl pellets. These decorations are openwork and formed of decorative arabesques. On the front, this box has a circular mother-of-pearl entrance, accompanied by a key and an original hook lock in perfect working order. Once opened we discover a slightly inclined side decorated with red leather with cold stamps, gold vignette and patterns at the corners. In the upper part we find three compartments and a removable pencil holder revealing a cavity. A small inkwell completes this space. The joint is made of brass hinges. Note also a small brass latch, closing one of the two covers possessed by this writing desk. This is revealed by pulling small triangular leather tabs. These small storage spaces were used for sheets, paper and envelopes. A collectible and decorative object, this travel writing desk will delight lovers of historical articles; we will enjoy imagining the correspondence of which it was a witness and a privileged accessory. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our Workshop.
