Alexandre Urbain was born on March 1, 1875 in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. He studied in the studio of Luc Olivier Merson at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants from 1903, at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1905, at the Salon d'Automne from 1906 as well as at the Salon des Tuileries. He was president of the Salon des Indépendants from 1941 to 1951. Alexandre Urbain died in 1953 in Paris.
