Student of Cabanel, Louis François Gautier exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in 1884 and participated in regional exhibitions in Aix, Avignon, Marseille and Montpellier. He obtained the order for the sets of the Town Hall and the Aix en Provence theater. He founded the Society of Friends of the Arts of Aix in 1894, then an ethnographic museum in 1901.
Some of his works are exhibited at the Granet Museum in Aix en Provence.
