"Pierre-luc Bouvier: Rare 18th Century Pair Of Sterling Silver Candlesticks - Trévoux 1714-44"
Extremely rare Pair of Candlesticks in Solid Silver from the Louis XV period with square bases with cut sides, i.e. 8 sides. The octagonal shape of the bases is echoed on the knots, shafts and binets. Remarkably hallmarked pair on feet, bells and binets with the Hallmarks of Recognition of
TRÉVOUX (Halls of the Prince of Dombes and Hallmarks of the City of Arms of Trévoux), Countermarks (with crowned lily) and Hallmarks of the Master Goldsmith
Pierre-Luc BOUVIER (Hallmark with the initials "PLB" crowned) received to practice in Trévoux in 1715, he died in 1744 which allows us to date this Pair of Torches from TRÉVOUX 1714-1744. Extremely rare pair of Louis XV period torches in very good condition and remarkably marked, micro-scratches from use. For an informed collector....
Mr De Lachaise and Jean Mounier in the work on "L'Orfèvrerie de Lyon et Trévoux" point out that only two pairs of Trevoltian candlesticks have been identified. One is Pierre-Luc Bouvier, undoubtedly later because it has baluster shafts, and another pair by Dominique Chantel, also later, made between 1759 and 1771. The pair presented here are therefore not yet listed.
