Julio Le Parc, born September 23, 1928 in Mendoza, Argentina, is an Argentine sculptor and painter of contemporary art. He was naturalized French around 19801. Biography Julio Le Parc studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón (es) in Buenos Aires. In 1958, he obtained a scholarship from the French government and moved to Paris. He stops producing art in traditional media and turns to light, movement and color, producing kinetic objects turning to "perceptual art". Red sphere at the retrospective at the Palais de Tokyo in 20132. In the 1960s, he co-founded the Visual Art Research Group (GRAV) with Horacio Garcia Rossi, François Morellet, Francisco Sobrino, Joël Stein and Yvaral. GRAV's collective works challenge matters such as the author's literary culture and creativity. The Park later created its first environments with objects that could be maneuvered and lighting effects, thus stimulating the sensory participation of the viewer. In 1966 his first solo exhibition was organized at the Howard Wise Gallery in New York. The same year, he won the Grand Prix for painting at the Venice Biennale. In May 1968, his active participation in the “people's workshops” led to his expulsion from France, a measure which lasted five months and ended with his return to Paris thanks to protests by artists and intellectuals. His first retrospective took place in 1972 in Dusseldorf, Germany. Six years later, in 1978, the BBC in London produced a documentary on his life and work. In 1987, he won first prize at the International Biennial in Cuenca, Ecuador. In 2004, he produced a series of sculptures with Yvonne Argenterio in Elettrofiamma, in Italy. He presented the event Verso la Luce, at Boldeniga Castle (Brescia, Italy), still visible in the castle garden. The works of Julio Le Parc are present in the collections of international museums such as MALBA3, MoMA4, Center Pompidou5 and Tate Modern6.
