Baluch carpet with gull decoration, tribal decoration present on Afghan carpets.
In wool on wool, fine hand-knotted, natural colors, from the mid-20th century, circa 1960-1970 in very good condition, although showing very slight signs of wear.
These rugs (Baluchis - Beloutches - Balouchi) are knotted and woven by the nomadic Baluch tribes, in Iran, Afghanistan, Russia and Central Asia, in sheep's wool but also especially with unbleached camel wool.
These carpets can be dark and dull, red, wine-colored, wine-colored, earthy, but also very light, camel-colored.
The decor is geometric, taking motifs from the decorations of the Caucasus but also from ancient Persia.
The most sought after by the Baluch are animals and prayers presenting a niche, the mihrab, rectangular specific to this tribe, (the niche, indicates the Quibla, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca).
## Today, we are led to think that Beluch or Baluch carpets originate from Beluchistan.
This is in no way the case, they are tied further north, in Khorasan, in Iran, on the Russo-Iranian border, they are given, for the most beautiful models, the name of Mecched, capital of the Khorasan.
These are nomadic rugs, so the sizes are quite small, the warps and wefts until recently were always in wool (before 1940), but the use of cotton has supplanted wool, the knot used remains the Persian knot .
The large number of patterns used shows the Persian influence, and the geometric characters link them to the family of Central Asian carpets, which is in no way the case. Interior decoration often reveals great geometric elaboration, in all the symbolism and symmetry.
The design is very elaborate, modern, it has a certain magic in the shapes and colors.
The sumptuous border of the most beautiful effect, in the style of Afghan and Central Asian carpets; Béchir, with seven wide bands and eight thin bands, presents Greeks and friezes resembling Caucasian and Central Asian borders.
Proof that the art of carpeting is an immense melting pot, a mixture of many influences coming from all parts of the world. East.
This rug has been professionally and eco-friendly cleaned.
