"Beauvau (henry De) - Daily Account Of The Journey To The Levant. Printed By Garnich In 1619."
BEAUVAU (Henry de) - Daily account of the journey to the Levant made and described by the high and powerful lord Henry de Beauvau, baron of the said place and of Manonville, lord of Fléville, Sermaise Domepure &c. Nancy, By Jacob Garnich, 1619; in-4, printed title page, VI-181 pp., period full calfskin binding, spine decorated with 5 raised bands, title label in red morocco, mottled edges. Beaupré 328-329, Favier 9523. Second illustrated edition identical to that of 1615, also by Garnich. Christmas copy, complete with 49 engravings which punctuate this travel story to Jerusalem and return via Rhodes and Malta. Henry de Beauvau, lord of Lorraine, traveled through Turkey, Palestine and Egypt and returned to France via the Mediterranean. This edition is very sought after because it contains the engravings of Appier Hanzelet that Henry de Beauvau had made to illustrate his story. These engravings are believed to be accurate. They represent a few monuments (Holy Sepulcher, church of Bethlehem), but often they are views of the cities, ports and islands crossed by the author. These cities are represented in a little relief and perspective with the streets and blocks. Beautiful edition, extremely rare work.
