Spectacular large bas-relief finely carved in solid beech wood .
This relief represents The Battle of the Golden Hopes in the 14th century.
The Battle of the Golden Hopes is a momentous event in the history of Flanders , so momentous that its anniversary has become the national holiday of Flanders ( Belgium ).
Called the Battle of Courtrai by the French , it took place on July 11, 1302 , the Flemish militias against the army of the king of France, Philip IV.
Very high quality carving.
