Louis XVI work


Double-sided flat desk with projection in rosewood and stained sycamore veneer.
Inlaid on all sides with geometric motifs of large stylized rosewood flowers on stained sycamore, it opens on the front with three drawers and has three simulated drawers at the back.

Each drawer and simulation is framed with a gilt bronze fillet chiseled with a heart-shaped motif. The corners of the crosspieces are decorated with a tinted sycamore cartouche whose center is decorated with oval gilded bronze foliage. The belt is decorated, in the center of each side, with a stylized gilded bronze rosette. The keyholes are medallions topped with foliage crowns, in gilded bronze.

Its top is covered in red leather gilded with small irons and surrounded by a gilded bronze ingot mold.
It rests on four canted and fluted legs in alternating tinted sycamore and gilded bronze and finished with gilded bronze shoes and swivel casters. They are topped with gilded bronze capitals.

Francois Bayer, received master on December 5, 1764, specialized in inlaid furniture with projection. Several of his productions are still renowned today and presented in major museums, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, which offers a small Transition table, or the Cleveland Museum of Art, a Louis XVI chest of drawers with a square projection.
