18th Century Cusco Painting flag

Object description :

" 18th Century Cusco Painting"
The Cusco School (Escuela cuzqueña) was a Roman Catholic artistic tradition based in Peru (former capital of the Inca Empire) during the colonial period, in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.

This early 18th-century oil painting depicts Archangel Raphael, the angel of healing, protection, and travel. This painting had a rather crude replacement for its original stretcher, with the original probably damaged due to its age.  With age-related cracking, all in all still a very enchanting painting, and rare at this date.
