"Miner, Adrien - Etienne Gaudez (1845 - 1902), Bronze, France, 19th Century."
This patinated bronze sculpture represents a proud miner leaning on his pickaxe. He is dressed in worker's pants and wears a distinctive cap on his head. The artist used two patina colors to separately emphasize the miner's body and costume.

Patinated bronze.

Realism, France, 2nd half of the 19th century. Signed "A. GAUDEZ".

Height 46.5 cm.

Very good state of conservation, small frictions.

Adrien - Etienne GAUDEZ (1845 - 1902) - born in Lyon in 1845, studied with François Jouffroy at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He began at the Salon in 1864. He mainly created bronze sculptures, in the style of academicism and realism. In 1870, he participated in the Franco-Prussian War and was taken prisoner of war. After the war, he resumed his artistic activity and notably created a monument to prisoners of war in Magdeburg. He died in 1902 in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
