"Large Reliquary/monstrance In Carved And Gilded Wood, Italy Early 18th Century"
Large Reliquary/Monstrance in richly carved and gilded wood. Italian work from the beginning of the 18th century. This model of reliquary/monstrance was used to present to the faithful the relics contained in the small glass cavity located in the upper part of the reliquary and called "monstrance". It seems here that it is a set of small scrolls of parchment... The decoration is still in the Renaissance spirit and is made up of varied scrolls and leafy branches on a lion's paw base... The general condition is very good despite some wear to the mecca gilding which is original and the old patina is really beautiful. Superb, very decorative object with a real presence.
