He was a student of Léon Germain Pelouse (1838-1891), painter of the Barbizon school. Galien-Laloue is famous for his views of Paris evoking exactly the atmosphere of Paris in 1900, in the happy era of omnibuses and cabs. He also painted numerous landscapes, notably of Normandy and Seine-et-Marne, under his name or under the pseudonym of Léon Dupuy, Eugène Galiany or Jacques Liévin.
