"Conopée Tabernache Veil Silk Embroidery Ihs Foliage 19th Century"
Ancient conopea* or tabernacle veil, in fabric and silk (green in color) finely embroidered and fringed with chenillettes, decorated with the IHS trigram (Iesus Hominum Salvator = Jesus Savior of Men) at the top, as well as floral and plant motifs stylized, from the 19th century. This conopea is in good condition. Nice quality. Note: slight wear over time on the fabric and on the fringes, see photos. * Conopeia: in the Catholic liturgy, the conopea is the veil covering the tabernacle where the consecrated hosts are located. It can be declined according to the various colors of liturgical times. For Catholics, it is one of the signs which manifest the real presence of Christ, because it symbolically recalls the tent of the Exodus which sheltered the Ark of the Covenant, symbol of the presence of God. In many churches it is no longer used, in particular because it hides a door decorated with biblical scenes or symbolic motifs.
