"Adoration Of The Magi, Nativity 17th Century, Follower Of Francken"
Hello, I offer you this very beautiful religious work from the end of the 17th to the beginning of the 18th century. This very beautiful nativity is a painting painted in oil on canvas, representing the adoration of the Magi. it is a Flemish school very well done by one of Frans Franken's followers, around 1700. This painting was very well done, the perspectives are respected, it has very beautiful colors. There have been old restorations, which currently means that nothing has to be done to it. This work is very well framed, with carved gilded wood. The work could have been attributed to the workshop of the Flemish painter Frans Francken III, belonging to a prolific family of English painters who played a predominant role in local art for four generations. Convincing is the comparison with a painting by Frans Francken III, preserved at the Museum of Fine Arts in Tournai, Belgium. In this work the same composition is represented, with some chromatic variations and in which the artist describes, in the background, an overview of a Flemish town with houses, a bridge under which a river flows and a few inhabitants. The blue sky is marked by a few clouds and a few bare trees suggest the winter season. Frans Francken III (Antwerp, 1607-1667) belongs to the Francken dynasty of painters. Son of Frans Francken II and Elisabeth Placquet trained in his father's workshop. In 1639-'40 he entered the corporation of Saint Luc and in 1656, in recognition of the fortune his works received, he became dean. His ability to paint small figures means that he is often asked by other artists to animate landscape or interior compositions with supporting figures. Frans Francken III specializes in small paintings, painting sacred and secular objects. His works, marked by the vivacity of colors, vary in narrative richness depending on the demand and taste of the clients and their economic possibilities. Often overloaded with work, we use the help of workshop collaborators who skillfully imitate the style. He has several students, including Carstian Luyckx and Jan Baptist Segaert. The Tournai painting was reproduced several times by the master and his assistants.
