The bisquit sculpture analyzed represents the figure of Mother Svea (in Swedish Moder Svea), a national personification of Sweden. Svea is a feminine proper name that comes from an ancient genitive plural meaning of the svear, Germanic people who occupied Scandinavia. It is also used in the coronimo Svea rike, meaning "Kingdom of the Swabians", from which comes Sverige, the Swedish name of Sweden.
Commonly depicted as a powerful warrior, a Valchiria or skjaldmö, she is often armed with a shield and has a lion beside her.
The creation of his popular image is attributed to the Swedish writer Anders Leijonstedt who first introduced it in his poem the Svea Lycksaligheets Triumph in 1672. As a patriotic symbol it gained popularity with the poem Kunga Skald written in 1697 by the Swedish poet Gunno Eurelius in honor of King Charles XI of Sweden.
In the 19th century it frequently appeared as a patriotic symbol and was depicted in various coins.
The sculpture rests on a rectangular base with rounded corners. At the center a shield flanked by walnut leaves on the left and bay leaves on the right.
