"Renaissance Style Iron “écu » Shield Decorated With Medusa Head, 19th."
Shield, écu, in iron in Renaissance style after the model present at the Rustkammer in Dresden, with a rich decoration representing the head of Medusa in the middle at the top ; the fight between David and Goliath and at the bottom a scene from the story of Judith. To the left and right of the Gorgon in cartouches are represented Minerva and Mars, all surrounded by military trophies, victories and two defeated men. Very beautiful work from the Violet le Duc period. Probably cast by one of the important Prussian foundries known for their 'Berlin Iron'. Work around 1860.
