"Oil Painting On Slate, Early 19th Century, Chivalrous Scene"
Oil painting on slate, 19th century period, representing a scene of knights, which I would entitle, “the sad departure of the knights. This scene represents a lady mourning the departure of her knight with her handkerchief wiping her eyes, in front of her a character who may be a man of the church for the blessing, and two riders mounted on their horses, all in front of a castle building. The production on a slate support is very rare, and often there are paintings which hold up very well in the auction room Dating: early 19th century Frame in gilded wood with beaded outline.
