Okuyi Punu Mask Gabon flag

Object description :

"Okuyi Punu Mask Gabon"
Here is a beautiful Punu mask from Gabon. These masks, famous thanks to the modernist movement of the 20th century which was inspired by them, notably Picasso, are among the most beautiful and astonishing African masks with their little Japanese side, due to the fine eyes and the white koalin which covers them. These masks are danced on stilts, they are a tribute to women, to their beauty, their sensuality. Here it is obviously a very young teenager who inspired the sculptor, she does not yet have the ritual feminine diamond scarifications on the forehead, the baby face is particularly fine and delicate, with a beautiful and light smile, it This is the first time I have seen a mask of this style and delicate beauty. Note a sort of round mark on the left side (see photo), probably a knot in the wood, wear at the fixing holes at the back, beautiful patina of use, height 30 cm. Probably around 1950/60.
