"“the Bather With The Cat” After Carrier-belleuse"
Gilded bronze edition of the “Baigneuse au chat” after the sculpted marble work of Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. Statuette marketed around 1920 by La Galerie Arthur Goldscheider which was located at 28 avenue de l'Opéra in Paris. Very good general condition, brown/beige veined onyx stone base not included in the height indicated, (total height: 30 cm). On the base of the bronze is the Carrier-Belleuse signature, the founder's AG Paris stamp as well as a numbered monogram. Arriving in Paris around the age of 13, Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse learned carving then goldsmithing; it was the sculptor David D'Angers who facilitated his entry into the School of Fine Arts in 1840. A brilliant student, he will be asked to join the biggest publishing houses. He exhibited at the Salon from 1857, Emperor Napoleon III acquired “La Bacchante” in 1863 and he received important orders for the ornamentation of numerous prestigious buildings. In 1885 he was named Knight of the Legion of Honor, and the greatest French and international museums today exhibit works by this great artist.
