Hungarian-style brass guard. Leather covered handle without watermark. The hilt bears no markings.
Blade with single hollow side and strong arrow, hallmarked with the LVV surrounded by points of Benjamin Levavasseur, Inspector in Klingenthal from 03/1798 to 09/1803 and the M of Jean-Jacques Mouton, 1st inspector from 07/1798 to 02/1809. On the guard side of the blade is engraved in large cursive letters "Repe" for République and on the counter-guard side "Franse" for Française. The back of the blade is engraved KLINGENTHAL in strong capital letters.
Wooden barrel scabbard covered in leather with two large brass fittings nicely cut and decorated with lines, iron dart. The two linings are connected together by finely scalloped reinforcement splints.
