# Damascene work is a delicate technique of inlaying small threads of gold or silver into a metal object. This technique spread from Damascus to Toledo and India. Some pieces are made of iron, such as, for example, the gold damascened helmet of Sultan Barsbay. On copper or bronze objects, characters or decorative motifs are damascened in silver. Pure copper is the origin of the alloys bronze and brass. It has been shaped by embossing at all times, but it has often been gilded, enameled, covered or inlaid with other materials like our model. It was widely used in the manufacture of everyday objects. Boilermaking brings together this type of production and certain countries, such as those of the Muslim East, have become masters in this area. ## Tuğra also spelled “tughra” or “tugra” (Arabic: طغراء), is a Turkish word designating the monogram of the Ottoman sultans. It comes from the Divanî style of Arabic calligraphy, used for the needs of the Ottoman administration. These symbols presented, in the form of very elegant calligraphy, the name of the sultan, his title and his direct ancestry – the kunya – as well as the formula “always victorious” or “victorious forever”. They began and authenticated official imperial documents, decorated monuments built during the reign, fountains, etc. The Tuğra appeared around the same time as the signatures in Europe in all the states of Turkish culture, such as the Khanate of Kazan or among the Tatars. The visitor can admire examples on several monuments in the former Ottoman capital, Istanbul. Tuğra are also used in other countries, for example Russia or Japan Dimensions: diameter: 36 cm, height: 1 cm, weight: 2 kgs FREE SHIPPING FOR FRANCE 0€ / EUROPE 25€ / WORLD 50€ www .winsteinprovence.com For any information or other photos, please call me on 06 13 36 09 30 or winsteinprovence@gmail.com REF WINSTEIN 1309
