His attitude may recall that of the brigade leader Antoine Guillaume Rampon at the head of the 32nd demi-brigade, defending the redoubt of Monte Legino during the battle of Montenotte during the Italian Campaign, April 10, 1796 on the eponymous painting by Renée Théodore Berthon which can be seen at the Museum of French History in Versailles.
The work was created in the years 1846/1847 by the French sculptor Armand Jules Le Veel (1821-1905). A bronze was quickly offered in edition in 3 sizes (60 cm, 40 cm and 13 cm) by the Susse Frères house.
