"Carved Boxwood Pipe Case Hunting And Village Scene, Germany, 18th Century"
Boxwood pipe case entirely carved with hunting scenes and village festivals, as well as two lions with crowned swords and a double-headed eagle with a scepter and cruciger orb. The case measures 26cm in length. The decoration therefore consists of: -On the oval head: two-headed eagle and two lions with swords, the hood box which lifts with a smiling lion's head. -Along the stem: circle of six round heads; village festival scene with music and dancing; then a hunting scene illustrating a hunter and a long frieze of animals including deer, rabbit, a sow and her boar, all followed by three hunting dogs. Despite a few small cracks and a consolidated element at the base of the head, beautiful original condition. The double-headed eagle indicates a German provenance and the case dates back to the 18th century.
