"A 7th-8th Century Silver And Enamel Belt Buckle With Pegasus"
7th-8th century AD Silver belt buckle with rectangular body enamel and integral fastening loop, relief figure of a stylized winged horse (Pegasus) on the plaque. See for a comparable example in bronze Cf. Papanikola-Bakirtzi, D. (ed.), Daily life in Byzantium. Byzantine hours. Works and days in Byzantium, Exhibition catalogue, Thessaloniki, White Tower October 2001-January 2002, Athens, 2002, n°483. Belt buckles of this typology were widely found in the territories of the Eastern Roman Empire and were found in excavations in Corinth, Istanbul and Varna. They were mainly found in male tombs and could be a type of belt buckle used by Roman soldiers of the time.
