"Louis XV Cabaret Table In Bordeaux Mahogany 18th Century"
Center table with Louis XV style cabaret top in solid mahogany, Bordeaux work from the second half of the 18th century. It is topped with a one-piece tray hollowed out in a bowl resting on scrolled crosspieces with rich and delicate sculpted decoration of shells, acanthus leaves, flowers and foliage. It opens with a large drawer on the front. These four very high curved legs enhanced with foliage and ending in a leafy volute give it a lot of lightness and elegance. Cabaret tables were born with the arrival of new exotic drinks such as coffee, tea and chocolate. They will quickly become the prerogative of large houses, notably private hotels in major French ports, before establishing themselves in Paris in the most prestigious salons. They are part of the quintessential French art of living, a symbol of refinement and elegance.
Good condition, warm patina of the old waxed filling, small graft on the edge of the tray (see photos), replaced draw button.
