Object description :

"Sundial In Silver And Gilded Brass, C. 1660-70"
Small horizontal pocket dial preserved in its original leather case and constructed in silver and gilded brass. The dial is almost miniature in size, i.e. 46×35 mm. The gnomon, in gilded brass, is at fixed latitude superbly decorated with an eagle with open wings. According to the latitude of the dial we can attribute this work to Salomon Chesnon. The silver Latin is engraved with the time scale divided into III to XII and I to VIII, subdivided every half hour. The miniature dial is in perfect condition with its original needle still magnetized. On the back the signature is not original, but later. Regardless, a rare early fixed latitude sundial in mint condition.
