Military Cavalrymen On Horseback

Very pretty painting representing a formation of four soldiers on horseback taking a wide path on the edge of a wood. This oil on hardboard panel is perfectly done. Our eyes are directly drawn to the riders and the depth effect shows a precise perspective created by this anonymous artist but not without great talent! The painter used brushes (stiff bristle brush) to apply his flat colors, providing a very interesting material effect. He plays with nuances to bring light to his subject. I will date this painting to the beginning of the 20th century. This oil on hardboard was cleaned by a museum-approved painting restorer.
