A short video to see it well => vimeo Very interesting and rare Yela mask from the DRC, note the completely abstract and minimalist treatment of the face! We know very little about these masks, they seem to be execution masks, a common practice as with their neighbor Mbole, to punish deviant behavior that does not respect social rules.
Remains of fabric hanging on the back, and beautiful traces of adze, height 33cm, wear. Probably from the middle of the last century.
