Here is the excellent piece of furniture that was in the dining room in the 18th century, the hand wash fountain, a beginning of hygiene at a time when we were starting to fear water less... This magnificent fountain is the proof, of beautiful scalloped size with its large pelvis. Suspended on a panel of molded woodwork in blond walnut, it pours the saving water with its bronze tap into a basin placed on a removable walnut base, with a channel top in a sturdy oak to contain any overflow. Pure Louis XV style, scalloped, arched legs ending in goat's feet. The fountain itself is very ornamental with its movement and its Viscount coat of arms crowned with fruit trees with powerful roots, all in a beautiful well-engraved interlacing cartouche. The domed fountain cap with its two pinnacle sockets completes the decor. The basin itself in an animated cutout sets the tone for this rare and very beautiful piece which comes from a castle in Aveyron, from a private collection of 'a dynasty of Pharmacists.
