"Bacchus, Terracotta From The 19th Century"
Rare and beautiful 19th century terracotta representing life-size Bacchus. His head crowned with bunches of grapes and vine leaves rests on a torso which stops below the pectorals. It ends with a circular base which fits together probably in a missing lower part (see photo). A small simple wooden wedge at the back helps the perfect stability of the piece. The arms, on the other hand, are not missing: The sculpture was deliberately designed as an excavation piece without arms. The one on the left stops at chest level. Its smooth edge is chipped in places. Same as the one on the right. Most of the terracotta is in excellent condition: There are no gaps in the torso and head. It is superbly modeled in terms of the beard, hair and attributes of the god. The patina reinforces the naturalistic and sensual representation of the god. Her flesh-colored nipples are a glaring example of this. The price does not include shipping or delivery. Depending on its destination, it can be done by ourselves.
