"Dominique Deroche : 18th Century French Sterling Silver Coffee Pot Nancy 1771-78"
Extremely rare Nancy coffee pot in solid silver from the 18th century resting on three "hoof" feet with cartrouche attachements. Baluster-shaped body features a long pouring spout, and lid with thumb rest is topped with a magnificent flower-shaped finial resting on its leafy terrace. Side handle in brown wood with cracks from use, note the very beautiful cut-out attachment of the applied hood. Remarkably well hallmarked on both the body and lid with the marks of the Master of the Nancy mastery in operation between
1771 and 1778, namely
René RENAUT and the Hallmark of the Master Goldsmith
Dominique DEROCHE (initials "DD" under a thistle) active in
1757. This rare, high quality 18th century coffee pot from Nancy is in very good condition, just micro scratches from use to note. For the informed collector....
