"Allegory Of Charity \ Maternity"
This subject finds an inspired iconographic vein in the local tradition, even paraphrasing earlier subjects by Carlo Cignani, although Roman influences are perceptible in our painting. This allegory presents the act of breast-feeding as an expression of generosity and devotion, based on a construction that is not far removed from the representation of a Madonna and Child with Saint John, in a circularity of gestures and glances that finds its centrality in the young female figure while two children are at her side, one sleeping under the half-light of the veil.
