French painter known for his sensual nudes inspired by Antiquity, Jean Souverbie was influenced by Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard and Georges Braque.
He explored his interest in neo-classical ideals and Greek sculpture in his monumental nudes, seascapes and still lifes, as well as designing sets for operas and ballets.
Today, Souverbie's work can be found in the collections of the Musée National d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, among others.
