This still life with a Bouquet of Flowers is a French work from the end of the 19th century, beginning XXth.
Inspired by the floral compositions of Nordic painting from the 17th and 18th centuries, it is a celebration of the beauty of nature.
This bouquet, well arranged and dense, standing out against a dark background, is arranged in a vase placed on an entablature.
It easily defies the laws of weightlessness, some flowers being very straight while others are more leaning. This juxtaposition of flowers, including lily of the valley and peonies in various colors, is bathed in light in the center while the secondary shapes and on the sides darken while seeming to hollow out the space.
This painting is in good condition, on its original canvas with traces of cracks and an old frame.
Sold with its frame.
